TO REMOVE SCRATCHES FROM THE INSIDE OF A FULL AQUARIUM

Separate your Mighty Magnets from the spacer block and set the outer magnet safely aside. Remove the algae scrub pad from the inner magnet and replace it with the coarsest sanding pad that you want to start with, normally this would be the #1500 pad.For finer scratches or light scuffs, you may save steps and time by starting with the #2400 pad, #3600 pad, or even the #4000 pad depending on the depth of the scratches. Center the sanding pad on the magnet with the abrasive cloth side out. Now place the inner magnet in the aquarium directly upon the scratched area with one hand and place the outer magnet on the corresponding spot on the outside of the aquarium with the other. On large aquariums you may need someone to help you match up the magnets on the aquarium wall.

Start sanding across the scratch (perpendicular to it) back and forth in straight lines until the original scratch disappears. If it worked, only the scratch marks left by the sanding pad are seen. If the original scratch is still visible after sanding, you will need to start with a coarser sanding pad (lower number) and repeat the process until you have successfully eliminated the original scratch. You must then work with each of the next finer sanding pads in succession. Each time you will be sanding off the preceding pads marks. This is best done by sanding across the grain left by the previous pad until its marks are gone. Repeat this process with each finer grit pad (higher number). Each time you remove the previous pads marks you must sand a larger area in order to do it properly. Therefore, each new sanding pad used, is sanding a larger and larger surface area. This process will also reduce the possibility of causing a wavy surface that may look distorted. When you have finished with the #12000 sanding pad you have sanded a much larger area than when you started. Sometimes if you look very closely at the job you did you might see a slight cloudy haze? Do not despair; this haze will disappear with time just by using your Mighty Magnets for their original purpose of periodic algae removal. They actually will help polish off the haze with each use. The liquid polish supplied in the kit is the final step for polishing the outside of the aquarium only. IMPORTANT NOTE: If the inner magnet half get stuck to the inside walls of your aquarium because of the surface adhesion created by the sanding pad, try flipping or turning your outside magnet half to use the repulsive force of the magnets to push the inner magnet away from the wall so it can float up for retrieval.

TO REMOVE SCRATCHES FROM THE OUTSIDE OF AN AQUARIUM:

When sanding off scratches on the outside of an aquarium (or inside an empty aquarium) we recommend using the inner half of your Mighty Magnets or a suitable sanding block. Be sure to use equal pressure while sanding the scratched area. Frequently rinse or dip the sanding pads in clean fresh water while sanding to ensure their longevity. Upon sanding completion (after using the #12000 grit sanding pad) use the polish supplied. Apply the polish by hand following the instructions on the bottle and only on the outside surfaces of the aquarium.

CLEAN UP

Upon completion of the scratch removal process rinse all used sanding pads in clean fresh water and air dry before returning to the storage case. With proper care this kit will last for many jobs.

CRAZING

For damage across an entire outer surface such as ‘Crazing’ (Crazing is a checking of plastic that is usually seen as a series of very fine shiny lines, stars, or haze when viewed at an angle in bright light). Use the above method of scratch removal, but “Crazing” will require more work and time, as the damage is usually deeper and may require replacing the aquarium. To help prevent crazing make sure the products used to clean the outside surfaces of your aquarium specify that they are Acrylic safe!

For very deep scratches, 1000 grit Pad available per special order!
