MIGHTY MAGNET INSTRUCTIONS
Read all information before use
Important: Also read “Warnings and Safety Instructions” supplied with your Mighty Magnets before using this
product.
Preparation: First provide a work area for your Mighty Magnets near the aquarium you are going to service. Make
sure there are no objects in the area that may be attracted to, or damaged by, the strong magnetic fields
produced by the Mighty Magnets algae cleaning tool. Carefully bring your Mighty Magnets, still in their case, to the
work area. Open up the aquariums’ top in preparation for cleaning with the magnets.
Separating the Magnets: Remove your Mighty Magnets from their storage case, and with a magnet half in each
hand, use a twisting motion to rotate the Magnets 90 degrees to each other. This helps break the powerful
magnetic bond between the magnets, allowing the operator to more easily separate the magnets from the spacer
block. As you pull and twist the two magnet halves apart, let the spacer block drop to the work area and keep the
magnet halves at a safe distance apart from each other. Serious damage and/or injury could result from
allowing the magnet halves to slam together!
Cleaning Method
The outside magnet is the one with the felt pad and the Mighty Magnets label on it. This replaceable, acrylic
safe, felt pad goes against the outside surface of the aquarium. The inside magnet has a replaceable, acrylic safe,
algae scrub pad on it which goes against the inside surface of the aquarium.
After separating the two magnet halves (outside and inside magnets) from the spacer block as described above
and while always keeping the magnet halves a safe distance apart, place the outer magnet half against the outside
glass of the aquarium, and with your other hand carefully place the inner magnet half inside the aquarium. Slowly
bring the two magnet halves together by allowing the inner magnet half to align itself and stick to the outer
magnet half with the aquariums’ glass, or wall, between them.
You are now ready to easily remove the algae from the inside of the aquarium. Move the outside magnet around
the aquarium and the inner magnet will follow, wiping off the surface algae as it goes. Be sure to watch the magnets
carefully at all times as you clean incase a bit of hard material gets stuck on one of the pads and starts to scratch
the aquarium. Listening is also important, as you can hear scratching as well. If you do get a scratch, don’t despair.
A Mighty Magnets Scratch Repair Kit can easily remove scratches, even inside a full working aquarium! Sometimes
with soft acrylic, even a fish can scratch a tank, so it’s nice to have a repair kit handy. If you do see or hear a
scratch stop immediately, pull the outer magnet straight off the aquarium and set it in a safe place. The inner
magnet will then fall off in the aquarium and you can carefully remove it. You will then clean or replace the inner
magnet scrub pad and /or the outer magnet felt pad and start again. Working from the top down in an aquarium is a
good way to avoid problems when cleaning. We recommend staying several inches away from the gravel line
(bottom) in the aquarium until the very last swipe. Then if you want to do the gravel line, make it your final pass.
It’s very important to pull the outer magnet away from the aquarium to release the inner magnet before you leave
the gravel line area! This way if you have picked up any sand or gravel you won’t drag it up into the viewing surface
risking a scratch. Plan ahead so that you release the inner magnet in a convenient retrieval area. Set the outer
magnet in a safe place and retrieve the inner magnet. You now need to pull off the used scrub pad, rinse the inner
magnet in freshwater, and pat it dry with a clean towel. Put on a new and dry scrub pad. You can now carefully bring
the two magnet halves together with the spacer block in between them and place them back in the storage case.
The storage case and magnets should be kept in a cabinet under lock and key. Always keep Mighty Magnets away
from children and magnetically sensitive objects or materials (see Warnings and Safety Instructions). Note: You
can also thoroughly rinse and dry the used scrub pad (at your own risk) for your next cleaning.
Remember Safety First!
Mighty Magnets are Professional Strength cleaning magnets that quickly and easily remove aquarium surface algae.
We do not recommend leaving the magnets in the aquarium!
Other time savers that work in conjunction with your Mighty Magnets are the Dozer Pad, the Algae Cutter Bags
and the Underwater Scratch Removal Kit and the Acrylic Cleaning Kit.
